FLOORSTUDIO is proud to present Crafting Contours, a collaborative work with Indonesian designer Cynthia Margareth of Mergrath Design, featured at SaloneSatellite, Milan Design Week 2026.
Inspired by the ever-shifting landscapes of the Indonesian archipelago, Crafting Contours translates the dynamic relationship between coastlines, islands, and volcanic ridges into a sculptural textile form. The piece embraces an asymmetrical composition, where flowing contours and layered textures evoke the natural topography of Indonesia—fluid, organic, and continuously evolving.
Crafted using natural fibres and locally developed techniques, the work reflects a deep respect for materiality and process. FLOORSTUDIO brings this vision to life through a combination of hand-tufted techniques, integrating varied pile heights, textures, and intricate contouring to create depth and movement across the surface.
A key element of this collaboration lies in its use of leftover yarns, carefully reintroduced into the design. This approach not only enhances the richness of texture and color, but also represents FLOORSTUDIO’s ongoing commitment to sustainable craftsmanship—transforming surplus materials into meaningful design expressions.
“Crafting Contours is an exploration of how landscape can be interpreted as a tactile, spatial experience,” shares Cynthia Margareth. “It reflects the essence of Indonesia—its diversity, movement, and quiet complexity.”
Presented at SaloneSatellite—an international platform dedicated to emerging designers—this collaboration marks a significant step in bringing Indonesian craftsmanship into a global design dialogue. It highlights the synergy between contemporary design thinking and traditional making processes, positioning FLOORSTUDIO as a brand rooted in heritage while continuously evolving through experimentation and collaboration.
Through Crafting Contours, FLOORSTUDIO reaffirms its belief that design is not only about aesthetics, but also about responsibility—where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
