FLOORSTUDIO × THUFEIL A Collaborative Exploration of Craft, Material and Space at JIA CURATED 2026

Bali, Indonesia — August 2026 — FLOORSTUDIO collaborated with Thufeil for Wana Paviliun at JIA CURATED 2026, held from 13–17 August 2026 at Pengembak Beach, Sanur, Bali.
Presented under JIA CURATED 2026’s theme “Nature Weave,” the collaboration explored the relationship between nature, craftsmanship, materiality and contemporary Indonesian design through an immersive interior experience.
Conceived by Thufeil, Wana Paviliun brought together designers, makers and brands from different disciplines within a single spatial narrative. Rather than presenting each contributor independently, the pavilion allowed furniture, textiles, carpets, objects, appliances and architectural materials to interact as parts of one environment.
For FLOORSTUDIO, the collaboration provided an opportunity to explore hand-tufted carpet beyond its conventional role as a floor covering.
Wana Paviliun
“Wana,” meaning forest, became the underlying inspiration for the pavilion—a place where individual elements coexist, overlap and contribute to a larger ecosystem.

Under Thufeil’s creative direction, Wana Paviliun brought together:

Together, the collaborators contributed their respective expertise in materials, furniture, textiles, objects and spatial design to create an environment shaped by collective craftsmanship.

Bale Meten and Bale Angin
Wana Paviliun was presented through two distinctive room settings, Bale Meten and Bale Angin, each offering a different interpretation of material, function and atmosphere while remaining connected through the pavilion’s overall narrative.
Within these spaces, FLOORSTUDIO contributed bespoke hand-tufted works developed in response to Thufeil’s design concept.
Rather than treating the carpet as an element added at the end of the interior process, FLOORSTUDIO worked collaboratively with Thufeil to allow the pieces to become part of the architecture and composition of the rooms.
The result demonstrates how a hand-tufted surface can establish relationships with furniture, materials and objects around it—contributing texture, depth and visual rhythm to the overall space.

Exploring Carpet Beyond the Floor
For this collaboration, FLOORSTUDIO explored different expressions of its hand-tufting craftsmanship across both floor and wall applications.
The pieces combine carefully selected yarns with variations in pile height, texture and tufting techniques to create surfaces that respond differently to light and touch.
A further material exploration introduced metal elements into the carpet pieces, creating an unexpected dialogue between two contrasting characteristics: the softness and tactile quality of textile against the precision and solidity of metal.
This juxtaposition reflects FLOORSTUDIO’s continuing interest in expanding the possibilities of hand-tufted craftsmanship—not only as carpet making, but as a medium capable of interacting with furniture, architecture, art and other materials.

Collaboration as a Design Process
At the heart of Wana Paviliun is the idea that a meaningful interior is rarely the work of a single discipline.
Thufeil’s concept brought together collaborators with different expertise and allowed their work to respond to one another within the same environment.
For FLOORSTUDIO, this collaborative process is particularly meaningful. Working closely with designers provides opportunities to explore new techniques, materials and applications that might not emerge from an isolated product-development process.
The collaboration with Thufeil at JIA CURATED 2026 therefore represents more than a presentation of finished pieces. It reflects a shared process of experimentation—where concept, craftsmanship and material knowledge develop together.

In the Spirit of Nature Weave
The collaborative character of Wana Paviliun also resonates with “Nature Weave,” the theme of JIA CURATED 2026.
Like elements within a natural ecosystem, the works presented within Wana Paviliun maintain their individual identities while contributing to something larger.
Through this collaboration, FLOORSTUDIO celebrates the value of working across disciplines and the possibilities that emerge when designers, makers and brands share their knowledge, materials and craftsmanship.
It is an approach that reflects both the spirit of gotong royong and the growing confidence of Indonesia’s contemporary design community.
